Matthew O'Donnell

Monsignor Matthew O'Donnell MA, BD, DPh was an Irish priest and educator who served as the 26th president of St. Patrick's College, Maynooth〔''Monsignor Matthew O'Donnell President of St Patrick's College Maynooth 1994/1996 A Tribute'' by James McEvoy.〕
Matt was born in Mungret, Co Limerick, in 1932. He studied at St Mary's College, Galway, and was ordained a priest for the Galway diocese, he received his doctorate in Philosophy from Louvain and became Professor of Ethics and also served some time as vice-president of Maynooth.〔(Appointments to Date )〕
Dr. O'Donnell died on September 7, 1996, having suffered a heart attack earlier that year. Two postgraduate scholarships for Maynooth College were named in his honour one in Philosophy and one in Theology.
He spent some of his childhood in Maynooth where his mother was from and is buried with his parents in Grangewilliam Cemetery〔(Donaghmore Grangewilliam Cemetery ) www.kildare.ie〕 just outside Maynooth Town.〔(Grangewilliam Donaghmore Graveyard )〕
